RALEIGH CHRISTIAN ADVOCATE. IS Thursday, November 7, 1907. great sufferer, seeking relief in the Johns Hopkins Hospital, but all to uo permanent good. With sublime patience he held on bravely to the last hour when his soing brought great grief to loving hearts. Jesse Lemuel Sugg was a useful, public-spirited citizen; a Mason much estemed by his brethren, and for many years a faithful member of the Methodist Church. In all these relations he will be much miss ed, but nowhere so much as in his own home. The little woman who for more than a decade was the do voted object of his love and care feels the utter loneliness of life since he went away. In the weeds of her widowhood, she realizes the unspeakable Joss that has come to her. May the God in whom he trust ed be her stay and the guide of life for her and the dear little girls. Since the All-Knowing is the All Loving, too, we should be able to look up even through our tears and not despair, though the heart be almost broken. We hope to meet our brother beyond the stars. MARION T. PLYLE1I. RESOLUTIONS OF IlKSPKCT. Mrs. Juo. L. Barrett e. Whereas. God in His All-wise Providence has seen fit to call from earth to Heaven our beloved sister, and co-worker, Mrs. Jno. L. Bar re tte; there fore be it Resolved 1. That the removal of such a life from our Church and So ciety leaves a vacancy and a shadow that will be deeply realized by all the members and friends of our church. 2. That in her life wo find a model worthy of our emulation, a character that, will leave its impress upon the community in which she lived, the church at whose altars she worship ped, and upon her loved ones so sorely bereaved. That with feelings of deepest and tenderest sympathies we, the members of Farmville Home Mis sion Society, present a copy of these resolutions to the stricken. life- mate and family, and at the same time point them to her beautiful life as an example worthy to be imitated. 1. That a copy of these resolutions be spread upon our Minutes, and a copy sent to the Raleigh Christian Advocate for publication. MRS. J. W. PARKER, MRS. J. T. THORNE, Committee. Sam'l Brown Smitli and Ola Holland. Whereas, in he intricate and un fathomable laws of life, Samuel Brown Smith and Ola Holland, each aged about seven years, two bright and lovable scholars of Bethlehem Sunday-school, Onslow Charge M. E. Church, South, have in the tender and innocent years of early child hood, been removed by death from our midst to their Celestial home; therefore be it Resolved 1. That in their death, Bethlehem Sunday-school has sus tained a severe loss, over which it grieves and tenderly mourns these exemplary and lovable scholars with aching hearts. 2. That, we tender to the bereft families our sincere condolence, and assure that the memory of these lit tle ones will ever remain fresh and green in our hearts. 3. That a copy of these resolutions be sent to the Raleigh Christian Ad vocate, the Weekly New Bern Jour nal, and The Coaster for publication. D. S. KOONCE, ESTELLE HUMPHREY, ETHEL SANDERS, Committee. Gold Duet We must not assert a thing to be impossible merely because we cannot conceive how it is done. Rev. J. Ossian Da vies. J Our daily prayer should be "de liver us from evil," and our daily praise should be fervently given that we are delivered from great unknown evils. Dr. S. D. Gordon. Love feels no burden, regards not labors, would willingly do more than it is able, pleads not impossibility, because it feels that it can and may do all things. Thomas a Kempis. I do not believe much in aggres sive Christian work which is not based on faithful and earnest evan gelical preaching, but all kinds of so cial work can be built on that foun dation. Principal Lindsay. And I can bless Thee, too, for every smart, For every disappointment, ache and fear, For every hook thou tixest in my heart, For every burning cord that draws mo night. George Macdonald. & A high conception of the beauty and glory of the church will save us from that foolish vagrancy that is one of the perils of our time; we shall cease to treat the church as a shop to which we bring our custom, but shall regard it as a sanctuary and a home in which love and faith display their gifts. Rev. A. T. Gut ter'. Science has found much that has glorified the Creator and ennobled human intellect, and it will find much more, but it never has found and never will find transcendental morality in the physical universe. But. that which was invisible in na ture was made manifest in Christ. Christ, and the Father were one in the moral splendors of the human life. Rev. W. H. Dallinger, F. R. S.
